Finance dictionary / Variable expenses

Variable expenses

Costs that change from month to month, like groceries, gas or electricity.

Variable expenses are necessary but don't cost the same each time. Groceries, gas, and utilities like electricity are common examples.

Planning with a realistic estimate, then logging what you actually spend, shows you where the estimate needs adjusting.
