Finance dictionary / Net pay (take-home pay)

Net pay (take-home pay)

What you actually receive after taxes and deductions.

Net pay is what reaches your bank account: gross pay minus taxes, retirement contributions, insurance premiums and other deductions.

This is the number to budget with. If your pay changes from check to check, an average of your recent paychecks is a reasonable estimate for planning.
