Finance dictionary / Cash flow

Cash flow

Money coming in compared with money going out over a period of time.

Positive cash flow means more money came in than went out; negative cash flow means the opposite.

Timing matters too. You can earn enough in a month and still come up short if rent is due before payday. That's why planning bills around paydays, not just monthly totals, helps avoid overdrafts and late fees.
